Ask the Veterinarian - food for cat with liver disease

Expert: Charlotte Sherrell, DVM - 11/7/2009

Question
An old previously neglected rescue cat with liver disease. will not eat her hills prescription diet for liver disease, is sick on low fat cottage cheese....but loves raw egg...please advise. thank you

Answer
Lesley -

I would not advise feeding your cat raw eggs.  There are supplements that can help to get the liver healthy - Danamarin and Denosyl are great supplements that might help your cat.

It is essential that you help your cat to eat the food that is prescribed - if necessary try another brand or hand feed your kitty if she is willing to eat when you pay her attention.
