Question
We have always bought our vaccinations from the Co-op store, and this year after giving my 3 yrs old boxer the rabies shot, he has a lump on his neck and he has this huge hanging skin under his jaw...feels like its liquid filled.. i gave him 1 tsp childrens benadryl earlier today, still nothing.  What is this and do i need to get him to a vet right away?  Thanks.

Answer
Lori -

That certainly does sound like a vaccine reaction - perhaps the next time you will have a professional to do the vaccinating. In some states it is illegal for a layman to vaccinate an animal for rabies.  It is surprising that you were able to purchase a vaccine that is so important to public health.

The benadryl dose you gave your dog shows that you do not know what you are doing - have your pet seen be a veterinary professional as soon as possible before your dogs' physical condition worsens.
