Question

my little dog had a tumor secreting glands of the anal mucosa or rectum, cancer is it aggressive? I know this cancer aps
it is common that cancer causes cutaneous metastases?
What is the median survival?
thank you

Answer
Are you saying that your dog had an anal gland tumor? or did he have a perianal adenoma?
They are two different things.

I do not know what cancer aps means.

Perianal adenomas are usually found in older, intact (unneutered) male dogs. They are usually benign but many of them are malignant. anal sac adenocarcinomas are usually malignant.

Surgery should be done as well as neutering the dog to determine what kind of tumor it is. The biggest problem with these tumors is not so much that they spread inside but reoccur over and over and then bleed if not removed. After many surgeries some owners just opt to put the dog down instead of the reoccurring problems.

If the tumor does not come back the median survival rate would be the same as if he had not had one.

You can read some cases about it here:

http://www.vetinfo.com/dpanadenoma.html

If it is indeed an anal gland adenocarcinoma, you can read about those here:

http://www.caninecancerawareness.org/html/CanineCancerAdenocarcinoma.html

From what you are telling me I am guessing it is the second one. In that case, the only way to know how long the survival time might be is by whether or not the tumor comes back and where.

The second article addresses that as well.

Good luck with this. I hope he recovers completely.
