Ask the Veterinarian/Cat Throwing Up

Question
Hi,
My 1 year old, indoor only cat started thowing up in the middle of the night last night, and has now thrown up 5 times.  It is only clear liquid- I have seen nothing else.  He acts normal, then I will hear his stomach rumble and he will give a pathetic meow and a few moments later he will begin to heave, ending in the clear puke.

Since it is early on, do I take him to the vet?  Do I wait to see if this continues for 24 hours and then take him in?

Poor Nigel.  Thanks so much for your help.

Best regards,
Jennifer

Answer
Jennifer -

You should have your cat examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible.  If you have your pet examined early in the disease process, often the animal does not experience advanced illness and the cost of the medical care is reduced because the animal does not get as sick as he would if you wait to take him to the doctor.   If your cat continues to vomit, he risks dehydration, which can lead to other problems.
