Question
I have a 5 month old Newfoundland that was just diagnosised with beginning stage renal failure.  We have been feeding her Iam's large breed puppy food. I have two questions for you.  First should we change her diet to a low protein diet.  Second how long should we expect for her to live.  She is about the sweetest thing in the world and the news was heart breaking.  any info you have would be great.  thank you for your time.

There are many diets for pets with renal failure. Consult with your veterinarian to determine which renal diet he/she recommends.
Because I have not examined your pet, I cannot give a prognosis for her condition.  Again, I urge you to speak with your veterinarian to determine how long your pet is expected to live.
