Ask the Veterinarian/my cat and shedding

Question
I have a cat that at one time was wild - he came to my door quite sick and I took him in - to the vet for treatment, etc and now he is just fine and an 'indoor cat'.  My problem is (and his) he sheds something terrible - I do brush him daily and could brush from now on out - the hair still keeps coming out.  What do you recommend.  I have even had him shaved a couple of times hoping the shedding would stop.

Answer

Unfortunately, I do not think that there is a product actually prevents shedding of cat or dog hair.  Some products claim to reduce the amount of shedding, but I have not noticed a significant amount of shedding reduced.

If his coat is not missing hair, then the shedding is considered normal.  Some cats shed more hair than others; a regiment of regular brushing is recommended to prevent excessive hair around the house and to prevent ingestion of excess hair.
