Question
My cat was about 16 years old.  She became sick and when I took her to the Vet, he said her body was filled with fluid.  After putting her down, the Vet determined that the fluid was blood.  What disease would cause internal bleeding in an elderly cat?  Would the cat be anemic because of the internal bleeding?"
Thank you

Answer
Cindy -

There are several diseases that can cause internal bleeding in a cat. There are times when internal bleeding can induce anemia; however hydration status can influence blood test results when the animal is anemic.

Lymphoma, ruptured spleen, bleeding ulcers - all can lead to internal bleeding.  You would need samples of organs to =determine the definitive cause of the internal bleeding.
