Question
I have a 6 year old westie.  It is uncommon for her to pant.  However, this morning she started panting for no apparrent reason.  She has water available and is not exposed to extreme heat or excercise.  She acts as though she does not want to lie down.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Have your dog examined as soon as possible. The fact that she is uncomfortable indicates that she may be having difficulty breathing or may be developing heart problems. Unfortunately, without the benefit of a physical exam, I cannot offer a diagnosis for you.  Your vet should be able to give you insight on what is bothering your dog.
