Ask the Veterinarian - asthma and my pitbull

Expert: Charlotte Sherrell, DVM - 6/28/2009

Question
my son was just recently diagnosed with moderate to severe asthma. Will my pitbull be a danger to my son's medical condition and if so, what can we do if anything, to reduce the chance of an attack from the dog. Also, do pitbulls have dander? If so what can we do to reduce it??

Answer
Crystal -

I am not sure I understand your question - are you asking if asthma will cause your dog to attack you son?  Please clarify your question for me.

Most dogs do have dander - frequent baths are the best way to effectively reduce pet dander.

Best Regards,

Charlotte Sherrell, DVM
