Ask the Veterinarian - pup constipated

Expert: Dr. Louis N. Gotthelf - 6/28/2009

Question
I have 10 day old puppy.  His stomach is very distended and I haven't seen the pup have a bowel movement all day.  What can I give him?

Answer
YOu can just use more concentrated milk to help relieve him.  Also, you can mimic the mother by taking a cotton ball and soaking it with warm water and then rub the belly lightly.  That will simulate the mother licking the puppy and that stimulates the bowels to act.
