Ask the Veterinarian/My cats' bowels

Question
Almost daily my older female cat jumps out of the litter box before her bowel movement is completed. I think she thinks she is done and jumps out and finishes her job elsewhere. What could be causing this? Her bowel movement is firm not runny.
Thanks you in advance--Joyce

Perhaps the litter box is not as clean as she would like for it to be.  Often, if a cat is not comfortable in the litter box they will try to do their business in a hurry.  Provide her with a clean litter box and if possible, an extra litter box.  Cats prefer having a choice of places to use the bathroom.
