Question

Brown
My dog is about 8 years old and I recently noticed a problem when she goes to the bathroom. She has trouble peeing. It either takes her a long time or sometimes she tries to go but cant. Also when she poops it has blood in it or occasionally comes out runny and goopy. What could be wrong??

Answer
Bryttni -

You should have your dog examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible.  Trouble urinating or defecating is never normal. Urinary crystals or a bladder infection might be the reason for the straining to urinate; constipation might be the reason for the trouble defecating.

A visit to your veterinarian can help to clarify any problems; do not wait until the problem get worse - it will be easier on your pet and easier on your pocketbook.
