Question
My chihuahau had 4 pups and her first bowel movement was normal and now she had diarrhea for a couple of days.  I take that is from the afterbirth she ate  it does seen to be less watery and is more like pudding but I was wondering how long will she have it. she's eating fine and her weight is good . could it be from  her cleaning the puppies bowels and if so does this mean her bowel could stay loose til she weans her pups? I have put her on a rice and hambuger and chicken diet .

Answer
You can add rice to her food but she needs to be on a good quality puppy food during her nursing period. She will most likely have better stools after a few days. If she goes a week she should see the vet as she could be overloaded with round worms her self.

Do not buy her Purina Puppy Chow as it has cow's milk in it and will just make her diarrhea worse. Get her on some Science Diet puppy Growth small bites and she and her puppies will really flourish on it.

Once they are weaned you can then put her on the Small Bites Adult formula.
