Ask the Veterinarian/Cat discharges small urine spots with piece of flesh or worm

Question
She does it on carpet in numerous conspicuous places and there is a small 1/2 inch long 1/8 inch wide fleshy piece with a touch of blood on each urine spot.  5 of them, 1 on each urine spot last night.  The urine has little odor as she is drinking excessive water.  The vet has only given antibiotics twice now because thought it was urine infection, but couldn't explain fleshy piece she is discharging.  Symptoms have been off and on for a year.  She eats, has her weight, purrs and otherwise ok.  She tells me something is wrong though.  Please help.

Drinking excessive water can be a sign of kidney problems, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism. Has she been checked for these? Has she been checked for bladder stones?

The fleshy piece could be the lining of her bladder, or a bunch of sludge that cats can build up from minerals. This is what causes male cats to block up. It looks like toothpaste and the blood is from irritation in her bladder.

If your vet has looked at it I am guessing he didn't feel it was a tapeworm that just happened to hitch a ride off her fur with the urine. We have seen that happen.

I would have the piece of fleshy stuff sent off to a pathologist and find out what it is comprised of.

I would also have her bladder x-rayed for stones. They don't have to be large to cause problems if they are irritating the bladder and making it shed. A year is much too long to have waited to get more work done.

Your vet should have been on the ball with the above tests a long time ago.
Tell him you want these things checked or find another vet that is more willing to probe deeper than reaching into the drug cabinet for antibiotics first.
