Ask the Veterinarian/Rash arround the neck

Question
Hello Dr. My female cat about 1 year old has been scratching terribly and I noticed that she has bumps around her neck. No hair loss is visible but it's getting worse. I can't seem to see through her hair to determine what it is? Can you suggest anything I can give her to calm her itching?
Thanks

Answer
The neck is where we see inflammation that results from allergies in the cat.  There is not much you can do at home, unless you are seeing fleas.  Then you can use topical flea medication, like Revolution or FRontline to keep the fleas minimized.   The vet can give a steroid shot called DepoMedrol, that will take this away for 4-6 weeks.
