Question

my yorkie
I was wondering if you can help me identify my yorkie's skin problem. under her left arm I noticed this. the dry krusty spots are a dried up lotion.

Answer
This is called lichinification.  IT is the result of an infection with either a bacteria or a yeast, and chafing the skin by rubbing.  Sometimes it is a hormonal problem, like a low thyroid hormone level.  Treatment is aimed at reducing the mass of thickened skin with special anti-seborrheic shampoos, and an antifungal or an antibiotic.  In addition, a medicated powder to keep the moisture controlled often helps.
