Ask the Veterinarian/1 yr old labradoodle

Question
We have a 1 year old  labradoodle that does not have much stamina. Today with took her for a walk, about a mile. Towards the end of the walk she kept laying down in the grass and was panting like I've never seen before. When we got home she drank so much water and it took her 30 min to normalize. It was very concerning and we are wondering if there is a more serious issue or if this is normal of this breed.

Thanks for your advice
Laura

Answer
No this is not normal and the last time I had a letter like this was from a boxer owner. You need to get this dog to the vet first thing tomorrow and have a work up done on her and especially a cardiac workup.

No one year old dog that is normal and healthy will lay down unless they are extremely overheated and close to heat stroke. Remember that she is wearing a fur coat and you are not and it's very hot almost everywhere this time of year (in the US of course).

I hope that she turns out to be fine but you need to get her looked at right away.
