Question
hello my dog was just released from our vet yesterday from what they term a bout of pancreatitis--very bad- she is completely lethargic still an haqs vomited a very small amount since she as been released. Initially she vomited a lot- he kept her for 2 days on IV fluids etc etc and now that she is home she started on her special diet- but as of tonite only- she vomited a little?? Is this a relapse or something nthat is to be expected???We are very very worried-- and how long will this last??/ Please help---

Answer
A small amount of vomiting is not unusual for a dog just recovering from pancreatitis, but you really need to watch her and if she increases her vomiting at all call the vet right away.

Stick strictly to her new diet and give her any medication she was prescribed on time and finish it all. Do NOT hesitate to call the vet if she isn't perking up in the next 24 hours.
Pancreatitis is very painful and that would account for her lethargy even now. The vet wouldn't have sent her home if she wasn't doing well so she must be improving.

As I said, however, if she has increased vomiting then call the vet right away. This is not a disease you wait with- folks that wait have dogs that don't do well or survive this.

I am sure she will be fine- just be hyper-vigilant about vomiting and what goes into her mouth. Absolutely NO other food, treats, anything should be given to her.

She will get better day by day. Stick to the diet he gave her and talk to him/her about a better diet for her for life that can prevent this painful and dreadful disease.

Please let me know how she does.
