Expert: Dr. Christina Chambreau - 1/10/2011
QuestionDear Dr,
My dog recently contracted the distemper disease...I brought hiom to the vet who admisnistered him some treatments and after 3 days, he looked better, started to play and run again but the one thing is that it still refuses to eat..Druign the treatment the vet asked to fed him only with serum, then after the 3 days of treatment i could feed him with normal food again.
I need help on how i can get my dog to eat again. He is a smalll size dog and he is starting to shrink since he hadnt had solid food since 31/12/10. He still drinks water. Wehn i give him serum, he still drinks it but i notice he rejected some afterwards. I gave him milk this morning,he did not drank it..
So please help me.
AnswerIt is critical to get them to eat again. I do not know what is available in Mauritius, so I recommend looking for healers (of people or animals) who know your native traditions and local herbs as these may help your dog really recover from distemper. The veterinary drugs helped only in the crisis, and he may revert to being sick again without herbal, homeopathic, or other energy treatments. Because this has gone so long, you really really need professional holistic treatments. Try every food there is (continue as you have) - meat, egg, dairy, fish, broth, mushed up, crunchy, salty, spicy, plain. You best chance is to find a homeopathic veterinarian who will work with you from their country (www.theAVH.org - referral - look for ones that do phone consults) From deBaiiracli Levy's book - Keep warm with good air flow. Give a teaspoon of diluted lemon juice daily and sort of flush his mouth as you do this. Mix raw garlic with honey and some water and squirt gently into his mouth. Honey is very nutritious, especially if the bees are from your area. Apple juice - fresh pressed is best - 1 T per day squirted into the mouth.
Also, you can ask for Reiki, which can be sent long distance.
From the book, Healthy Animal's Journal - "Reiki: Personally, I think every person who lives with or works with animals must know at least Level I Reiki. The practitioner places her hands upon the animal (or it can be done from a distance as some animals are too sensitive for direct touch) with the intent for healing to occur. The energy flows through the healer into the animal. This is based on directly applying Chi (energy) to rebalance the energy field so it no longer needs to produce the physical symptoms. It is a very good adjunct to any healing modality, especially to relieve pain and inflammation. It also "takes the bad out of" things. By doing Reiki on smelly water in restaurants I have been able to drink sweet tasting and smelling water. Use Reiki anytime that you must give injections, vaccines, drugs, flea or heartworm drugs, or other substances with potential toxicity. Do you work in a grooming salon, or kennel, or veterinary clinic, or barn or anywhere animals are being seen? Use your Reiki on any treatments to be given and to calm the animals. People have reported getting animals to eat by doing Reiki on their food. http://www.reiki.org .
