Ask the Veterinarian/Cat vomited many times last night

Question
Hi Jana,

My cat (Meeps - 7 year old spayed female, indoor/outdoor)

I fed her wet food at approx 6pm, but not sure when she actually ate it.

She started throwing up at approx 2 a.m 6 times in the night.

There was a pile of her regular food undigested, another pile was mucousy and tinged yellowy brown, a couple more piles were fairly clear and more watery with a little tinge of yellow and a couple more small piles were clear and frothy. When I re-examined one of the cloths I used to wipe up a clear pile, I noticed a very - almost flourescent pink colour.

My husband also noticed that her pupils looked a little dialated in the early morning and there was some orangish red crust globs around her eyes and slightly closing over second eyelids.  The crust is gone and her pupils look okay now.

She has stopped thowing up for 9 hours as far as i know but is still very lethargic and hasn't eatin or drank anything as far as I know.  She is still walking around okay, and went and sat in the backyard at her usual spot to look at birds for a while.

I called every vet in town and no one can see her in til tomorrow morning and no emergency docs are on call.

Do you think she will be okay until tomorrow? Is there anything I can do for her now?

Thank-you so much for your time.

Amy.

Answer
I would fast her for one day then give her some more mild food after that. You can even boil some chicken and rice and start her on that slowly.

If she continues to vomit this can get serious fast so get her into the vets if she does.

I would also stop ALL fancy feast food. This food is way too rich for some cats and can result in life-threatening pancreatitis.

So get her on a more stable and less fattening food such as Science Diet light or indoor cat. Be careful about her getting into mice etc outside that could have gotten into De-Con and poisons for the rodents.

Get her to vet immediately if she continues to vomit.
