Answer
Has this dog been checked for demodectic mange? Has anyone done a skin scraping on him?

Has he been put on an elimination diet for food allergies? He could be having a severe food allergy or even an inhalant allergic reaction.

Some dogs will have reactions like this to wool or nylon rugs in the house, wood smoke, cigarette smoke, etc.

You need to do a cause and effect trial with him for foods and things around your house.

He needs to be checked for mange first of all, then started on a diet of only rice and lamb or rabbit and sweet potato etc. Something novel.

It sounds like he is only being treated for symptoms, not the cause.

So get one of these vets to do a skin scraping for mange mites, then get him on a prescription diet from Hills for allergies, like Z/D. If you can't get that, then get a food like Walthams diets that have two ingredients that he has never eaten, such as the duck or rabbit or venison.

If the diet doesn't do a thing, then he has some serious allergies going on. A course of steroids could help him to settle his skin down, then you start looking at what is causing this problem.

Take these suggestions to one of these vets and ask them to do this. Poor little guy looks really miserable.

I hope you find a cure for him soon!
