Question
QUESTION: Dear Doctor,

i just came back from my vet who told me that my dog has got a big tumour in her stomach. he did an ultrasound and said that he cant say on what the tumour is on and if it can be removed, but it is likely to be on my dogs uterus and he might be able to remove it. He said the dogs heart is strong enough for the surgery, but there is a risk at her age, but he would do the surgery if it was his dog.He said the dog isnt in pain. please help me decide whether to go for the surgery or not. I love my dog, want to keep her alive as long as possible, but i dont want her to go through a surgery and just discover half a year later she has another tumour elsewhere...(she already had a benign tumour on her mamary gland a year ago.she had an ultrasound half a year ago and everything was fine. now, half a year later she has a big tumour, so it is growing fast.)thank you for your suggestions, Kamila

ANSWER: Kamila,
I loved my visit to the Czech republic (praha and Czeky Krumlov).

First, all of us, dogs included, do die at some point, so this may just be her time. I think, like your veterinarian, that I would not do the surgery.

There are a number of ways to treat tumors with homeopathy, though it has grown so fast that I would give less chance of success. There is an international groups, www.iavh.org, that may help you find one in Prague or nearby. I did not see one listed for CR, but maybe you could contact one in a nearby country who could help you. Also, www.theAVH.org does list ones here in the US who do email and phone consults.

If you can't find help, enjoy every minute that is left and give your dog everything she wants.

QUESTION: Dear doctor, thank you very much for your opinion. I had a look at the homeopathy site and i also looked at our local natural remedy shop. I found a product that seems suitable for our dog called sanimun, which contains betaglucan. its content is olive oil, Pleurotus ostreatus - ß-1,3-D-glucan. it says one to three drops a day. what dosage will you recommend?
i did call the only homeopath vet listed but he has busy and told me to call tomorrow.
glad you enjoyed your trip to czech republic :-) i live 60 km from prague, but hope to relocate to an english speaking country when i finish my south african degree in eduation.
thanks again for your help
Kamila

Answer
Kamila, I am not at all familar with that product which means nothing. There are so many wonderful approaches to healing that no one person can be skilled in them all. Since you have a call into a homeopathic vet I would wait to start it. If he cannot work with you, then start it. If her energy level decreases or she seems ill in other ways, stop it to see if the treatment is causing the problem. If you get my journal (HealthyAnimals@aol.com) it will help you track the symptoms to see what is helping the most.

Good luck.

Expertise

I can give you the holistic approach to any problem in any species, though mostly I work with dogs and cats. Depending on the condition and the type of animal, I will be able to give very specific treatment suggestions such as what flower essences, homeopathic remedies, nutritional supplements, diet changes, lifestyle changes or herbs that may be helpful - not drugs. I can also suggest where you can go for further education or to find a specialist in a specific holistic field. I can help you understand why your animal is ill and what improvements can be expected. I do not check messages more than every one to two days, so PLEASE DO NOT ask about EMERGENCIES - call your local veterinarian. I cannot diagnose your animal. I cannot prescribe specific treatments. I am no longer very current with conventional treatments, so cannot answer questions on those. I am not an expert on birds or small critters. I will give you helpful connections about hose species.

I graduated from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1980 and began using homeopathy in my practice after a client introduced me to it. I began lecturing in 1987 and have spoken at veterinary conferences, health food stores, people's homes, churches, veterinary college conferences - anywhere people want to learn more about keeping their animals healthy.
