Ask the Veterinarian/Kitten

Question
Hi, my name is Chelsey and I'm having a serious issue with my approx. 14 week old kitten. About 4 maybe 5 days now she has had a swollen vagina and butt. There's also a discharge coming out and I know its not a menstrual cycle. She's eating and able to use the bathroom but her stool has been liquid instead of solid like it normally is. Today she started biting her leg continuously, to the point she was bleeding and the fur is missing off of her leg where she was biting at. I'm extremely worried about her and i do not have the money to just go and take her to a vet. Is there anyway you can give me an "idea" on what is wrong with her?

Answer
You're right, this sounds fairly serious. And having a kitten or a pet of any type is a serious responsibility that sometimes entails taking them in for medical care. I cannot give you an idea of what is wrong because this is something that has to be seen and looked at with a hands-on approach. She is really not too young to be in heat except that normally they are not in heat in the winter, but 4 month old kittens can and DO go into heat.

Because she is in pain as evidenced by her self mutilating her leg, she needs to be seen by a vet soon. I know you don't want her to be in pain so you need to call a vet on Monday and get her seen soon.
