Question
I have a 3yr old intact female rottweiler which I bred to my male rottweiler. They were bred together several times during her standing heat cycle. Entry was made several times which always lasted a few minutes, however a tie was never made. It has been about 42 days since the breeding and she is showing sutle signs of pregnancy, ie slightly larger teats and breasts, seems hungrier, abdomine seems a bit larger, and sometimes she seems slower or more calm than usual. These signs do not seem to fully confirm a pregnancy....not quite sure if she is pregnant. Is there something else I could look for to confirm pregnancy?? Thank you

Answer
In general, a tie has to be made for a pregnancy to occur. That is why there is a tie with dogs. However, she may still have gotten pregnant.

The signs you mention can point to either a real pregnancy or a false one. The only sure way to know is the have the vet do an xray and/or palpate her. If you are selling these puppies that would be the way to go.

The gestation is 63 days, but the vet can see the pups on an xray and palpate the horns at 31 days.
Happy whelping!
