Question
QUESTION: I got my bitch spayed on 18 March 2010. Now she is 2 yrs 2 months old since then she underwent heat twice. Now she is bleeding since 12 Feb 2011. Bleeding is only few drops at a time , I feel she is in a pain. I want to know inspite of spaying why she is bleeding and can something be done about this , is it harmful for her.

ANSWER: If your dog has been in heat twice and is now bleeding, then part of her cervix or her ovaries probably got left behind when she was spayed. She cannot get pregnant but she needs to be seen and this stump needs to be removed.

If you go back to the same vet, talk to him/her about the fact that this dog has had two heats. I don't know why you haven't told them this before now, when she first came into heat.

Regardless, this needs to be taken care of soon because with her smelling like she is in heat she can get bred and it can hurt her since she no longer has a uterine horn.

I hope you get this resolved soon. Please let me know how she does.

QUESTION: Thanks for your answer. When she got operated last year Doc. said she is very sensitive and he had to give double dosage of anesthesia still she was not fully unconcious and I heard her crying during operation and now I am scared to get her operated again. Will this cause any harm to her, dont want to hurt her again alredy I am feeling guilty for this. Poor thing cant tell about her pain.

Answer
FIND A NEW VET!!! I can't emphasize this enough. This vet does NOT know what he is doing. Dogs that are 'sensitive' to anesthetic usually die not wake up.

You need to find a real vet that has real training. Vet's, just like doctors, are not all good at what they do. Please find another vet and get her looked at and taken care of.
