Question
our 2 and half yr.old lab was fine playing, jumping around and about 2hours later we found him dead,,his gums were black and grey and in the inside of his bottom eye lids were white.  he was up to date on all his shots and in good health...someone told us it could be from him killing a frog.could you please tell me if that is possible.  there were no wounds or bite marks anywhere on him and we live in sw texas

Answer
HI Anna,
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet dog. Finding your dog like this is such a major shock.

While I know that there are many frogs that are very toxic to dogs and can cause death, the only way you will know is if you have a vet do a postmortem on him.

I am not familiar with the frogs of Texas but there are frogs all around the country that can cause a fatal reaction in dogs. Your vet can better inform you if that is what might have happened to him.

Having them just look him over might give them a clue as to the cause of death.

Please take him in if you can. It is better to know then wonder for a long time- and it helps give you some closure on this terrible tragedy.

Again I am so sorry for your loss.

If you have a serious issue with your pet please post it to one of the veterinarians in here- I will tell you the same thing in my answer.
