Question
Every time I slightly pull on my dogs ears he starts yelping. I looked into his ears and they look very clean and can't figure out why they hurt him

Answer
You should have the dog's ear examined by a vet.  The dog's ear canal is like a boot with a vertical canal and a horizontal canal.  If there is something deep or it there is a problem on the other side of the eardrum causing alll of this pain, they will be able to see it.
