Ask the Veterinarian/Anal Glands

My cat is 16 yrs old and in the past 3 yrs has had his anal glands rupture 4 times...2 times on each side.
After that many time isn't the anal sack gone so it doesn't happen anymore.
My vet had said that since it happened that many times he doughts that it would ever happen again
Also he drinkw water and eats dry and wet food and isn't over weight

I don't want an operation for him since he is old

I don't know what you mean by "rupture." They can leak, and they can get abscesses and those can burst open but the gland itself cannot "rupture" because it has an opening.

A cyst can rupture because they are enclosed. Same with an abscess until they, too, rupture.

So I don't really understand your question. If your vet says they are fine then they are fine now.

He is too old to do surgery on, but not to clean them out in the normal way during an office visit.
