Ask the Veterinarian/Cat injured tail

Question
Hello,
My cat got his tail stuck in the doorway and his tail was injured with some of his skin off and some blood.  I tried cleaning the wound with a wet towel.  Do i need to apply anything? and will his hair grow back in that area?

thanks
Liana

Answer
You should keep it clean and if it is a superficial wound, it will heal.  The tail may not have feeling as the nerves in the tail are easily damaged.  If the blood supply was cut off to the tail, then it may die off and get real bad.  In that case your vet will need to cut off the dead part of the tail.
