Ask the Veterinarian/Cat licking itself

Question
My cat keeps licking itself raw in different locations on its body.  Why would this just start all of the sudden?

Answer
This is most often caused by the cat itching.  That is usually due to allergic dermatitis.  Ask your vet for a shot of a long acting steroid called DepoMedrol.  That will help if it is allergies and the hair will regrow.  THe shot may need to be repeated in 4-6 weeks.
