Ask the Veterinarian/Dry Flaky spot on my dog's nose

Question
My 7 yr. old English springer spaniel is being treated for allergies.

I noticed a  spot on his nose that is dry and flaky. It does not bother him.  Is this another symptom of  his allergies.

Answer
It depends on where it is on the nose.  If it is on the area that is black near his nostrils and is causing depigmentation, this may be an autoimmune problem.  If it is on the bridge of the nose, this may be a bacterial infection, which goes along with allergies.  If this lesion does not go away with the allergy treatment, then have the vet look at it.
