I have a female Jack Russell Terrier and she just came into Heat. How long will this last????

Answer
The first part of her heat, called Proestrus, lasts 10-14 days.  That's when she will swell and bleed.  Ten she goes into Estrus, or standing heat.  This is when she will breed to the male.  This can last 5-10 days. After that, she goes into Metestrus for 2-3 weeks.  Than is when she cleans out her uterus.  The rest of the year, she is in Diestrus, or resting.
