Ask the Veterinarian/Using Revolution for dogs on cats

Question
Hello, I have done this in the past, but have moved and cannot find my notes.  I rescued a cat found in the woods and am trying to integrate him into the family.  It appears that he has a mite breakout, he has the "coffee ground" stuff in his ear and is constantly scratching.  But it's not just at his ears.  Can't afford to take to vet AND buy treatment. And I want to cover the other cats, just in case. So was wondering if you could give me the breakdown for using the large dog Revolution on cats?  I understand it is an off-label use.  As I said, I've done this in the past.
Background:  He had bumps all over his body and couldn't cross the room without stopping to scratch.  Vet gave cortisone shot and that seems to have cleared up everything.
I THINK I remember the breakdown, but I may be wrong.  I think it might be 0.1mL per 5 lbs.  But it could be 0.5mL <sigh>.  Anyway, if you could help I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for your time and have a Happy New Year!

Answer
I do not use revolution bevcause it works too slowly.  Ifthe cat has bumpos and the shot helped, then this is an allergy and the revolution will not help that.  If the coffee grounds are from ear mites, then the revolution will kill ear mites, but it needs to be done twice monthly and the ear need to be cleaned out.

The dose of sealemectin is 3 mg per pound of body weight.  So you would have to weigh the cat and calculate how much he needs, then see what comes in the large dog vial and figure out how much of it is required.  DOn't just put the whole tube of the large dog revolution on the cat.
