Question
i have a female pitbull about 3years old, this morning when i went out to feed her i noticed that she was dragging her hind legs walking on her legs with her nails curled under her (as if you made a fist with your hand)she didnt want to walk at all. watching her all day she's pretty much been out of it. she hasnt eaten  anything, and she also been urinating blood heavily. i live out by woods, so the possibility of her being bit by a snake or something other, is there. have you ever heard of anything other cases like this, or anything similar?? thank you

Answer
Hi Vincent! While some urinary tract infections will clear up on their own even without treatment, occasionally the bacteria will swim up stream, causing a dangerous kidney infection vets call pyelonephritis.
Symtoms of kidney infection include frequent or difficult urination and possibly blood in the urine. Some pets get feverish and lethargic as well.Don't take chances if you notice any changes in your pet's normal urinary habits. She may need oral antibiotics to prevent a small infection from turning into major problem.
If your vet does send you home with antibiotics, the best time to give them is right after your pet urinates. That way you get the highest concentration of drugs in the animal's system.

As far as the bite, check for servere swelling and difficulty breathing.Your pet may be depressed and not moving very much.In addition, her blink reflex may slow to almost nothing.

As far as the dragging her hind legs with her nails curled,I would HIGHLY recommend taking her to a vet right away. This may be something servere and serious. She will need proper diagnosis and treatment.

I hope this has been helpful and good luck! Please be sure to take her to the vet right away! Please keep me posted and give that Pitbull kisses for me!Sending waging tails your way,
Nicole.D.
