Ask the Veterinarian/ear pain

Question
My dog shakes her head, digs in her ear and whines. We have taken her to the Vet many times. She doesn't have any parasites. We have cleaned her ears with an earwash and put an ointment in the ear but nothing helps. Please help us with this problem.

Answer
Many dogs with chronic ear infections and pain have middle ear infections.  Ask your vet to check for this. There are hundreds of treatments for the ear and without much much more information, I cannot tell you specifically what to do.

Most dogs with ear problems also have skin allergies, so if your dog has not been evaluated for allergies, that is something that may need to be done by your vet.
