My dog (a Chihuahua) scratches his ears constantly. He was also scratching his body until we put a loose coat on him. What causes it and how can I prevent this?

Itchy ears can be a sign of environmental allergies or even a food allergy.  If there is an infection in the ear canal that will make the dog scratch at the ear, too.  You should let your vet look at the dog to see why the ear is itching and what can be done to help.
