Hi. My 4 1/2 year old Golden Retriever was on my bed & suddenly fell over. I 1st thought he was clowning around but his right hind leg was curled against him & his front right leg stretched out stiffly in front of him. I thought he may even be stretching until I saw the confusion & fear in his face. I tried to move both the front & rear legs with no luck & he was trembling. I started to call for my son & just before he came in Tazz (the dog) jumped up & hid under the bed. His favorite place. He is the only dog I ever saw that could splay his legs out like an airplane & slide under the bed. I thought it was a puppy thing but he still does it.
At 8 months of age I noticed a strange gait & vet x-ray showed suspicious but not confirming of Dysplasia. I did not have another done at 2 years because he seemed too energetic but so flexible almost like a ferret. He would wobble like a fish on a hook if jumping up to catch something thrown. He could jump farther & higher than any dog I ever saw so I thought his strange gait was due to his flexibility. Could hip dysplasia have caused it?
I have one older Golden Retriever that is 12 years old. I got him when he was 8 & he sometimes has seizures but very few. When he has them he eliminates & stiffens up with his eyes fixed & non-responsive. He had gained a LOT of weight after I got him & now with a diet he has lost most of it but he also now had low thyroid, heart enlarged so bad it is 2X the size & collapsed trachea.
Tazz has had a recent weight gain. Not obese but noticeable. I wondered if the weight gain has caused nerve or hip problems to be more prominent. I know when the older dog has seizures he is totally non-responsive but Tazz was alert & so scared. His fast recovery made me realize it was not a stroke but it is the 1st time I have ever seen this behavior. I did call ER vet since it's Sunday & will call regular vet tomorrow. I'm just worried & mystified. Thanks

Did you find out the cause to this? The same thing happened to our puppy this morning. It was non-traumatic and all of a sudden woke up unable to move his left rear leg. It is limp and not painful....
