Ask the Veterinarian/kitten named Gracie

Question
Our 5 month old Gracie is an adopted pet.  We have had her since August 20th. She is neutered.  We have noticed that her little sides are bulging like a fat stomach, but not hanging down.  Her coat is also looking not smooth, kind of ruffled all the time.  She is deaf, and not very active, never has been.  She is sweet and doesn't seem to be in any pain.  Any suggestions?

Answer
I would recommend feeding her an all natural diet such as Prairie from Nature's Variety www.naturesvariety.com   My cats eat this food and have very shiny healthy coats.   I would also recommend taking a stool sample to the vet to rule out any intestinal parasites as that can cause stomach bloating--routine deworming should be given several times to kittens as they are normally born with intestinal worms.   The other thing that can cause a bloated belly is the wet form of FIP, which is usually fatal.  Therefore, a trip to the vet would be your best bet for an examination, and then the vet could check if there is any fluid in her abdomen.
