Assembly of God/GOOD WORKS ?

Question
Hi Elder Greg

Its me again . . . lol

Seriously, Greg.

I'm paraphasing here when the Lord said, " . . . all good works are like filthy rags." And . . . " no one gets to heaven by good works alone."

Elder Greg, those to statement confuse me.
I believe in both of what the Lord had said. However, what I don't understand is:

1. Aren't I responsible after being saved (as I am saved)
to do good works ?

2. Being at the Mercy Seat, will I be judged on the good works that I've done after being saved ?

I'm confused about the above.

Your suggestions/view point on these two questions please.

GOD BLESS YOU
Ray M.

Answer
Bro Ray,

Sorry to take so long to get back with you.

1. Yes, we are responsible to do good works after we are saved. However, it is important to understand that good works do not save you. Good works are not a "means of salvation" but a "proof of salvation". It's kinda like the old saying...

"You can't have the fruit, till you get the root."

The root of good works is salvation. And good works is the fruit of salvation.

2. Yes, when we are judged as Christians at the Mercy seat"or as some call it the 'Bema' seat), it will not be to find out if we are saved or not. But for us to receive the rewards in heaven for the good works don while we were alive on Earth.

Hope this helps.

Experience

I gave my heart to the Lord a few months after being married during a revival meeting. A few weeks later I received the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and I have not been the same since! In those twenty five years we have only attended one church (Harvest Church), and there I have served there as an Elder for fourteen years. We minister in song with the choir and worship team. I am also the new member’s class coordinator, men's ministry director, and the Harvest Riders motorcycle ministry president. In 1993 the Lord called me to "...preach the Gospel where ever I open the door..." I have had the privilege of ministering God's Word to churches in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. In those meetings we have seen the Lord save, heal, deliver, and fill people will His Spirit.

Organizations
I am ordained through Harvest Church, and with the World Harvest Ministerial Fellowship. I also am a licensed minister with the State of Oklahoma.

Education/Credentials
I am currantly enrolled with the Ames Bible College.
