Assembly of God/Displaying the Cross

Question
Dear Brian, My family and I have recently started to attend a Assembly of God church in our community. We have never been to one before, nor did we know that it was one. Having said that we have really enjoyed our experience. We have noticed that our church does not have a cross in it. Is this one of the beliefs of the denomination? Or is this just a local chapter thing? Thanks for answering! God bless!

Answer
Hi Erin

By cross I expect you are referring to a crucifix. Many AOG churches don't have that particular representation of Christ because we believe the cross to be empty since Jesus has risen. Any representation of the cross you might find will not contain a representation of Christ but you will also find there are no representations of religious images at all. This follows the Biblical injunction not to make images.

I hope you continue to attend the AoG and grow in Christ.
