Assembly of God/Who Were These Men ?
Expert: Brian Thompson - 10/29/2010
QuestionHi Brian
Can you tell me who were some of the men who wrote the Bible that was inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT ?
The fact remains:
Over a period of 1,600 years, 40 different authors wrote the 66 books of the Bible. There were 400 silent years between the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 of the New Testament. Yet, Genesis to Revelation tell on unified story.
I find that no other than MIRACULOUS.
If you can please give me one of two of these men who wrote some of the books of the Bible. Just how and when did they wrote it?
Its says in the Bible: Luke,Matthew,Mark etc, etc. wrote it but where does it say they sat down and where was the writing done ?
GOD BLESS

AnswerHi Ray
The best way to understand the people who wrote the Bible is to read it, it tells us a great deal about some of them.
Moses the great leader and prophet of the Israelites contributed the first five books
Isaiah another prophet perhaps a thousand years later gave us the great exposition of the coming messiah
David the great warrior poet and prophet contributed many of the psalms
You have already mentioned the evangelists and then there is Paul who contributed such great insights
All of these men had a long period over which to write down their experiences in God under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit
I don't think we can have the Bible reveal time and place except for John who tells us he was on Patmos and Paul who wrote some of his letters in prison but we know when and where these men lived. Moses didn't tell us he sat in his tent writing but we know he spent forty years in the desert of Sinai. A study Bible will give you a forward to each book which will give you some insight into time and circumstance and a Bible dictionary may help to fill in a few blanks. The 400 years you refer to is filled in historically in the aphocriptical writings. Those years were silent because there was no prophet, not because the Jews failed to record history
The fact that it is a continuous account not only of Jewish people but that it all ties together is because it is inspired by God so that his purposes should be known. It is a geneology of Jesus describing the acts of faith of those who responded to God and we find many of them in the ancestoral line of Jesus. Books like Evidence that demands a verdict will also give you some insights about the writing of the Bible.
