Question
i asked you the question earlier about exercise induced asthma and i run cross country. i plan on doing swimming for the winter would that be good for my asthma?

Answer
Hi Ashleigh,

A qualified YES on this one. The one issue you need to look into is in regards to chlorine levels in the water, as well as air ventilation in the facility. Chlorine is an extremely strong lung irritant that can trigger a severe attack.

But with that warning said, in a properly controlled environment, it is outstanding. Winter season has very low humidity levels which make the lungs more twitchy, so the high moisture levels are great to keep the mucus secretions flowing out, and not forming plugs. And although the chlorine is a risk, Amy VanDyken, Olympic swimmer with more golds than any other female in US history, has very severe asthma, yet achieved amazing renown. Needless to say, one of the most important components of asthma control is environmental control.

Good Luck!!

Sincerely,

Marc
