Question
Hi

My son is 7 years old and he has asthma.  His bedroom has a boiler in it.  His chest seems to be getting worse, could this be due to the heat in the room?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Shelley,

Is the boiler electric? If not, it could be fumes not properly venting from the room. Also, this time of year is noted worldwide for increased respiratory difficulties in people with lung disorders. Higher weed pollen levels, colder, dry air, increased mold, colds and viruses, can all play a part in his worsening health picture. Also, at his age, unfortunately, a lot of parents send their sick kids to school, spreading infections and viruses.

I'd get him into a specialist to get him back under control, lest he worsen and end up in the emergency room.

Pay close attention to how often he is using his rescue meds, and if he is having night time awakenings due to cough or wheezing.

Sincerely,

Marc
