Question
can an asthamatic woman use Theograde and ventolene inhaler during pregnancy?is it safe for pregnancy at early stage as well as the later stage?

Answer
Hi Fatima,

The Theograde product did not show up in my search, but I feel that it is probably the drug theophylline. It is a problem in pregnancy due to varying blood levels during different trimesters, and therefore not very good for control. Also, animal studies have shown developmental abnormalities in treated animals.

The Ventolin Inhaler is less of a problem, since it is of utmost importance to keep your own oxygen levels high. This should only be used as a rescue medication for use during an asthma attack.

I'd feel more comfortable if the doctor changed from the Theograde to an inhalation steroid. Better safety for your child and you.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Sincerely,

MArc
