Question
In June I was told I had mild asthma and I'm 60yrs old.
never had any problems before this.
Aslo doesn't feel like mild asthma because the inhalers are not working.
My question is could steriod shots in my neck and lumbar cause any problems with breathing.
I started getting the shots in Jan 2011 and have had 5 all together.
Thanks
Deb

Answer
Hi Debbie,

What type of physician (Internist, Family Practice, Allergist, Pulmonologist) made this diagnosis, and what tests were run to come to that conclusion: blood testing (CBC w/differential,RAST test),lung function testing (breathing into a computerized device, followed by an inhalation drug treatment, then blowing into the device again), or based upon symptoms?

Are you, or have you been a smoker, or in an environment where there is smoking on a frequent basis?

Did the physician do any spinal X-Rays or CT Scan on the area of your spine which has received the injections? With this, I'm looking at possible nerve compression potentially causing the problem, which would possibly explain why the inhalation medication didn't work. Also, were you thoroughly instructed in the proper use of the device, and your technique verified by the instructor?

Let me know, and I'll see if I can close in on the problem.

Sincerely,

Marc
