Asthma/Elevated IGG Levels

Question
I haven't been feeling too well for the past year and have been diagnosed with autoimmune chronic hives.  I'm under the care of a rhumatologist and an allergist.  While I have several environmental allergies, they have associated my hives to autoimmune hives.  All my autoimmune markers have come back normal except for my IGG levels which are as follows:

IgG, Serum High 1730 (reference range 694 to 1618)
IgG 2 Hight 816 (reference range 241 to 700)

My IgG 1, IgG 3, and IgG 4 levels came out normal.

My Rhumatologist is out of town for 10 days and I am concerned as to what the high IgG Serum and IgG 2 levels means.  Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks for all your help!

Answer
Hi Shelly,

Of the five major immunoglobulins, IgG is the smallest antibody in size, but the most common of the group (75-80%), and is found in all body fluids.
IgG are very important in fighting bacterial and viral infections. Based upon that, you may have an infection in your system at this time. Have you been feeling under the weather, compared to your normal day to day activity?

Regarding the specific individual IgG-2 antibody, it correlates with some bacterial infections, such as pseudomonas, pneumococcal or H. influenza type B infections.

This is on the edge of my edge of my expertise, and for further discussion, I'd follow up with your allergist to allay your concerns.

Sincerely,

Marc
