About Zane B Stein
Expertise
I WILL BE HAPPY TO answer questions about astrology in general, the meanings of planets, signs, houses, aspects, asteroids, Chiron, etc. I use Western, Tropical Astrology. Please do not ask me questions about Vedic Astrology as I am not an expert on this.

I WILL NOT ANSWER PERSONAL QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR INDIVIDUAL CHART, such as "Will I get rich?" or "Will I get married?", or "Are we compatible?" I do have a private astrological practice, and if you need to ask those type of questions, contact me privately and we`ll discuss a possible astrologer/client relationship. Also, I cannot answer questions about Vedic Astrology, or Chinese Astrology.

Also, astrology is NOT "What is my lucky stone?" or "What is my lucky color?" or "What are my lucky numbers?" Any astrologer who gives you a lucky object, or number, based on your chart, is not a real astrologer, but someone who is giving in to superstition. In order to find out how to enhance your luck, you need to have an astrologer look at your whole chart, and tell you what areas you need to focus upon, how to accent your positives, and work to resolve any problems that exist.

Experience
I've been involved with astrology since 1969, taught classes on several occasions, written a number of articles and one book, and lectured around the USA, in Canada, Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland.

Subject: Empty Houses

Question
I have lots of empty houses. 7Th house is empty but I know that it is opposite of a person's rising sign (descendant). How can this factor negatively affect a person's chart...or does it?

Answer
Hi, Pam,

An empty house is NOT negative in any way. In fact, it is not only normal, but everyone has some empty houses.  Why?

The main bodies in the chart are:
Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.  That's 10 bodies.  You have 12 houses.
So even if your chart was so spread out that you put one body per house, you'd still have two empty houses.

Then, consider the fact that Mercury can never be more than 28 degrees from the Sun. That means it shares the same house with the Sun more times than not. So now you have 3 empty houses.

Venus can never be more than 48 degrees away from the Sun, which means about 1/3 of the people have Venus in the same house as the Sun.  If Mercury is also in the same house, that gives 4 empty houses.

Another thing that can increase the number of houses is the fact that the planets frequently group together. 2, 3, or even more bodies can come together in one house; I've seen a few times when as many as 6 were in one house.  (As I write this, Venus, Jupiter and Pluto are all in the 7th house. And
while Mercury is not in the same house with the Sun, it is sharing a house with Neptune. So right now, there are 5 empty houses.)

You can add more bodies to the chart, which will often (but not always) fill up some more houses. Many people are now using Chiron, for example, but right now that's in the same
house as Neptune and Mercury, so there is still 5 empty houses. People usually include the North Nodes in a chart, but since they are not actual bodies, a house is still rather empty if it just has the North Nodes in it.  (And right now, the North Nodes are in the same house with Uranus, so even if you counted them, there would STILL be 5
empty houses.)

Am I saying that an empty house does not mean anything, then. No, far from it.  But it is not a NEGATIVE meaning.

All houses, with or without bodies in them, represent areas of life. Everyone, for example, has a 3rd house, which means everyone has an immediate neighborhood, and everyone has a general way they try (or don't try) to communicate with others.  If there is no body in the house (such as your 7th  house), then the sign on the house and the planet that rules
that sign become the main influence on that house.

Any house that has a planet, however, takes on added importance, because a person most easily expresses that part of him/herself in that area of life. So a person with Mars in the 3rd house, for example, expresses their Mars most easily in their immediate neighborhood, and as a tool for communication.

Houses with multiple planets show added emphasis on that house.  Thus, a person born right now, with 3 bodies in the 7th house, would express a lot of themselves most easily through dealing with others, and through relationships.

To make a long story short, planets in a house add emphasis to a house. No planets in a house do not make that house unimportant, but just not as emphasized.

I hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Zane
