Astrology/x6 retrograde planets in birth chart

Question
Hi Scott

I just wanted to get more information regarding the meaning behind a high occurrence of retrograde planets, as I have x6 in my birth chart (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto). I have read that x6 retrograde planets in one’s chart is a rare occurrence. Does this make it significant as a result? I feel like I must have been a bad person in a past life to have this many going on at once(!), especially since my sun is in Aries and moon in Leo. I understand a lot has to do with karma/past lives/introspection and slow development in life (this last point being a real worry for me as I am about to go through my Saturn return and do indeed feel quite lost in life).

So, what is the significance of having x6 in a chart? How does this relate to my interaction with the world and other people (especially when comparing my chart to others)?

Any information is appreciated

Answer
Christine,

Natal retrograde planets are very common, even having
3 or more. For example, this year during July and August
Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto were retrograde.
Mercury is retrograde 3 times (4 if you count very end
of Dec 2008) this year.

6 retrograde planets in a natal chart could be considered
rare. I wouldn't say that it's that significant though, in
comparison with the other 100s of considerations.

Retrograde, for any planet, is just another affliction;
it's one of many possible. So while you may have 6
retrograde planets, those 6 may not be in such bad
shape otherwise.

Don't worry, I wouldn't attribute the retrogrades to you
having been a bad person in prior lives. Especially since
your Sun is in Aries and your Moon is in Leo, you say?
Sorry, that does nothing (symbolically) to indicate that
you were a bad person in prior lives. Maybe you're being
too hard on yourself.

Hey, Saturn return can be a good thing, depending on the
other indicators. It's not always a rough time.

Mars and Saturn retrograde could (I say could because
there are many other indicators that either symbolically
strengthen or mitigate the energy) be tied to a strained
relationship with males, perhaps the male sibling or
father. Saturn has to do with efficiency, controls, etc.,
so slap retro on that and you have some detraction from
the energy. Mars retro could relate to energy directed
inward vs. outward. But you must look at the sign, the
house placement, how those planets are with others, etc.

Jupiter retro could relate to lower enthusiasm than
average, and even delay in Jupiter-related things, such
as abundance (delayed until later in life).

Outer planets--Uranus, Neptune, Pluto--retrograde aren't
as telling, in my view, than the other planets.

But again, there are so many other indictors to consider
that might symbolically override the above concerns.

Expertise

Please note: I DON'T DO PERSONAL READINGS HERE. That means if you ask for a free reading, your question will be rejected.

I'm happy to answer general astrology questions, such as identifying a particular Moon sign or Sun sign that happens to be on the cusp, or identifying an Ascendant (Rising sign) or a ruler (or rulers) of a particular house, etc.

As an example, you might ask, "My 7th house (house of partnerships, relationships, etc.) cusp sign is Virgo, so which planet rules the house considering I have no planets in that house?"

Or, you might ask, for instance, "My natal Sun is on the cusp, in which sign is it?"

Again, I WON'T DO PERSONAL READINGS HERE. Also, if your question relates to modern, psychological astrology, I won't answer it since the bulk of my predictive work is done using more ancient forms (I find them far more accurate). I won't answer questions about Chinese astrology or Vedic/Hindu astrology either.

My expertise involves the application of ancient forms of astrology (and numerology) to interpret personal fate, and assess personality and compatibility. http://www.scottpetullo.com http://www.mystictwins.com
