Also, astrology is NOT "What is my lucky stone?" or "What is my lucky color?" or "What are my lucky numbers?" Any astrologer who gives you a lucky object, or number, based on your chart, is not a real astrologer, but someone who is giving in to superstition. In order to find out how to enhance your luck, you need to have an astrologer look at your whole chart, and tell you what areas you need to focus upon, how to accent your positives, and work to resolve any problems that exist.

Question Hi, I'm just beginning to learn astrology. I'm having difficulty understanding what a progression is.. What is actually happening in the sky to make this? I need a mental picture of whats actually happening. I understand a transit because I can envision it. Is a progression just the future? Thanks, Sharon
Answer Good question, Sharon.
First, let's talk about transits, though.
If you take your birth chart, and look at the passage of the planets in the sky right now as they apply to your chart, you will see current events. It is the actual influence of these transiting bodies now, today.
Now imagine a different scenario. You may have read the Biblical axiom, A day is as a year to the Lord...
Progressions are symbolic, not real.
Take the planets positions in the sky when you are one day old, and apply them to your chart....and they SYMBOLIZE the changes you are going through at age 1. Take the positions when you are ten days old, and they symbolize how you are growing and changing when you are ten years old. If you are 25 years old, you would look to the planets' positions on the 25th day of your life and they would symbolize what you were going through at age 25.
Transits are events interacting with the world.
Progressions are the unfolding of your chart, how you grow and evolve based on what your chart shows at birth.
Let me use an acorn as an example.
When you plant an acorn, and it begins to sprout, the fact that it will grow into an oak, not a maple tree, would be due to its DNA, and this would be equivalent to its birth chart. How much it rains, how the wind blows, hot scorching summers and cold bitter winters would impact on the growth, as well as whether it received proper nutrients from the soil...these would be transits. But since it was an oak, it's first branches would spring up a certain way, its first leaves, its first flowers, and eventually its first acorns, and all this is determined by its DNA. The unfolding of the tree as it grows would be equivalent to the progressed chart.
The two can interact. An Oak may reach a point in its growth where a major storm could seriously damage its growth; a transit can interact with the progression. It also may experience a influx of nutrients at just the right moment when it is scheduled for a growth spurt...again, a transit to a progression.
So keep in mind that a progression is symbolic, while a transit real-time, and you will I hope be able to use both of them.
