About Zane B Stein
Expertise
I WILL BE HAPPY TO answer questions about astrology in general, the meanings of planets, signs, houses, aspects, asteroids, Chiron, etc. I use Western, Tropical Astrology. Please do not ask me questions about Vedic Astrology as I am not an expert on this.

I WILL NOT ANSWER PERSONAL QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR INDIVIDUAL CHART, such as "Will I get rich?" or "Will I get married?", or "Are we compatible?" I do have a private astrological practice, and if you need to ask those type of questions, contact me privately and we`ll discuss a possible astrologer/client relationship. Also, I cannot answer questions about Vedic Astrology, or Chinese Astrology.

Also, astrology is NOT "What is my lucky stone?" or "What is my lucky color?" or "What are my lucky numbers?" Any astrologer who gives you a lucky object, or number, based on your chart, is not a real astrologer, but someone who is giving in to superstition. In order to find out how to enhance your luck, you need to have an astrologer look at your whole chart, and tell you what areas you need to focus upon, how to accent your positives, and work to resolve any problems that exist.

Experience
I've been involved with astrology since 1969, taught classes on several occasions, written a number of articles and one book, and lectured around the USA, in Canada, Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland.

Question
I was born in February 28, 1985 FYI. Astrology and such always interested me, so I would like to finally figure it all out ! :)

I see people talking-writing about 'houses' and some 'ascendants', but don't know how you find those out?

What is the significance of those and other as such?

How do I read my astrology?

Can you give me an example with explanations of February ?

Also, would you be able to tell if someone born 12/28/1979 is compatible with me? Or if you can show me how to check myself?

Thanks !

Answer
Hi!

First, please note that, as described in my profile, I do not do individual chart readings on this site, only answering questions about astrology itself, so I can't compare your chart with the 12/28/79 person. I can tell you more of what you need to do the comparison, but more of that later in this post.

An astrological chart is based not just on a person's exact birthdate, but also the exact birth time for their birthplace.  If you do not have this information, then any astrological interpretation you do will be limited in scope.

Assuming you have all the above coordinates, the chart that is set up uses two basic systems, one overlaid on top of the other.  First, you have the signs of the zodiac.  You already know you are a Pisces, because your Sun is in the sign Pisces.  But you also have a Moon sign, Mercury sign, Venus sign, and sign for every other planet.  The Sun and Moon, and planets, move through the zodiac signs, so your birth chart is a screen shot of the sky at your moment of birth, showing where everything is.

The second coordinate system is the setup of 12 houses.  Forget the planets and signs for a moment, and just imagine you are standing outside in a field, looking East to where the Sun would come up if it were sunrise.  If you raise your eyes gradually until you look straight up, then continue scanning the sky until you reach the Western horizon (the sunset point), and then imagine dividing that whole scan from East to West by 6 sections, you will have the top 6 houses of the zodiac. Then imagine that, below the earth where you cannot currently see, the sky there is also divided into 6 sections, each one being the exact opposite of one of the houses you just created above you.  You now have 12 houses, each one describes an area
of life. These houses are measured counter clockwise, so if you start at the Eastern horizon, and then travel below the earth, the first house would actually be called The First House, the one after that the Second House, etc. The first house in the West...the one starting at the sunset point, would be the seventh house.  Each one of these houses is an area of life, so for example the seventh house is the area of life connected with dealing with people on a one-to-one level, such as partners, and marriage partners.

Now, when you overlay the signs with the houses, you will get signs on the edge of each house, and planets that are in the signs will now also be in houses.  The sign that falls on the start of the first house is called the Rising Sign, Ascending Sign, or Ascendant, and shows your perceptions of your immediate world, as well as the first impression others have of you when they first meet you (the mask you wear when you first interact with others.)

Reading your own astrology is not a quickie effort.  I will direct you to a site where you can find out your Sun, Moon, planets, and Rising Sign, and get a mini-reading.....but that's only a start.  It took me a couple of years of study before I really felt comfortable reading my own chart, and other charts, in details.  And even after almost 40 years of study, I still learn new things about astrology all the time.

The same site I will mention will also give you a beginner's eye to look at your 12/28/79 person for compatibility, but this, too, you would want to study for quite awhile before you would really be good at analyzing a potential relationship.  You would have to compare your Sun to that person's Moon, your Moon to their Sun, your Venus to their Mars and visa versa, and several other interactions.

The site I recommend is www.astro.com
You can go there, set up your chart, set up your partner's chart, and learn about each of you....at least enough to get started.

Then if you find you like what you discover and want to know more, I'd suggest taking an astrology course, or if you can't, get several books on how to learn astrology.  One of my favorites is Ronald C Davison's ASTROLOGY, but there are other good ones out there.  Debbi Kempton-Smith's SECRETS FROM A STARGAZER'S NOTEBOOK is an excellent and fun way to learn about what each planet means in each sign.

I hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Zane
